The latest phone to be subjected to the now traditional durability test conducted by Zack of the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything is OnePlus Open, OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone.

Not surprisingly, the display cover has glass on top that, like all glass, scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper grooves at level 7. The internal screen is similar to any other foldable display: it is covered by a plastic protection. , which scratches at level 2 and gets deeper grooves at level 3.

The sides of the phone are confirmed to be made of aluminum and it appears to be reasonably dustproof. The external display lasts about 25 seconds in contact with an open flame before the pixels turn white – fairly standard behavior for OLED screens. However, the internal panel’s plastic screen protector burns out in about five seconds.

Finally, the bending test: the phone survives bending from both directions when folded. Not only that, but it survives even if bent the wrong way when opened. After being subjected to this, it doesn’t go back to being as good as before, but it still remains 100% functional.

OnePlus hasn’t had the best results with these bend tests recently, so it’s nice to see that what many might consider its most vulnerable device to such tests is actually its most durable. Sometimes reality can surprise you and defy your expectations.
