Last week Realme announced the flagship GT2 Explorer Master armed with the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a bespoke design developed in collaboration with stylist Jae-Jung. We have received a review device now and these are our first impressions before the review team starts with its testing.

Design is the one aspect where the GT2 Explorer Master definitely stands out from other phones. We have the Travel Trunk model on hand here and it features a distinct look inspired by vintage luggage transport equipment. The phone features a light gray vegan leather back and copper brown elements and a flat metal frame. It is a solidly built device even though its weight is kept healthy at 195 grams.

There’s an early 6.7-inch flat OLED screen with FHD + resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a centered hole for the 16MP selfie camera. Realme is also carrying the capacitive triggers on the shoulders on the side where the power button is housed. These buttons allow you to perform certain actions in games such as driving a car, but strangely there are no marks on them, so you may lose the function entirely.

The retail box consists of the phone, a black silicone case, a 100W Realme charger and a USB-C cable. The software side is covered by Realme UI 3.0 on Android 12, although since this is a China-exclusive version, you don’t get Google services out of the box. That’s it for now, but stay tuned to our homepage for the full review of the Realme GT2 Explorer Master edition.
