According to industry sources close to Chinese media, Samsung has informed its hardware partners about the price increase of CIS (Camera Image Sensors) components. Starting next year, the Korean tech giant will increase the prices of some components by 25% and others by up to 30%.

Samsung is raising prices of camera components amid a recovering smartphone market

Samsung is one of the largest CMOS sensor manufacturers in the world and for the first time in two years the Korean company is seeing an increase in orders. The global smartphone market has been pretty slow to say the least for the last couple of years and now it’s finally picking up momentum, which is why Samsung feels confident enough to raise prices.

The report also states that the price increase mainly affects high-resolution sensors, 32MP and above. It remains to be seen whether the change will have a significant impact on smartphone prices in general and on Samsung phones.
