Samsung has finally confirmed that it will host the Galaxy Unpacked event for its Galaxy S24 series on January 17, and is now amplifying the teaser campaign with a new video ad. The short clip traces the history of mobile phones by showing what Samsung phones have looked like over the last four decades.

The journey began in 1988 with a real brick telephone which brought the novelty of being able to make calls without being tied to a wire. We then move on to 1999 with the first Samsung TV phone that used the digital media broadcast standard (DMB) to transmit the live television signal. The next stop was in 2011 with the launch of the original Galaxy Note, which pioneered the big-screen phone experience.

So let’s move on to 2014 with the Galaxy S5 bringing P67 water and dust resistance to the masses and the Galaxy S6 Edge introducing wireless card payments via Samsung Pay. The last device on the list is the Galaxy Z Flip which, together with the Z Fold, paved the way for the introduction of foldable smartphones. The ad then teases a “new era of mobile” with a silhouette of the S24 Ultra.
