Social media platform TikTok has announced new features for teens and families, including a daily 60-minute screen time limit for all users under the age of 18. It will default to each account for an hour, but users can opt-out and set their own limits.
The app will also add more screen time management features, including a reminder for users who have turned off the 60-minute limit but are spending more than 100 minutes. Parents will be able to control it, as well as add a passcode and extend this period to 30 minutes at a time.

The team consulted current academic research and experts from Boston Children’s Hospital’s Digital Wellness Lab to select the 60-minute limit.
Caregivers will be able to use Family Pairing to customize their daily screen limit, including different limits for different days of the week. They will also have access to the usage time dashboard, which provides details on the time spent on the app, the number of times the app has been opened, and a breakdown of the total time spent.
Parents will also be able to set more limits and turn off notifications for their kids. Currently, users under 15 don’t receive push notifications after 9pm, and users aged 16-17 have them disabled after 10pm.

New features of TikTok
Screen time is a serious issue for all users, which is why TikTok is bringing sleep reminders to everyone. People can set a time for a pop-up to remind them to log out, leave their device, and go to bed.
