Now that we’ve unboxed the Oppo Enco Air5, it’s time for the new Enco Air5. Dubbed Oppo’s first semi-in-ear earphones, the Air5s are available in Lunar White, Midnight Black, and Starlight Purple.
Since the earbuds are open-ear, there are no silicone tips in the package.

Oppo Enco Air5s
The Enco Air5s share some of the key specs of the Air5 (and Air5 Pro), such as the 12mm dynamic driver. However, these earbuds have a smaller case (with the same 530 mAh battery) and smaller 40.5 mAh built-in batteries (versus 62 mAh on the Air5). As a result, you get up to 48 hours on a charge compared to the Air5’s 52 hours.
One thing the Enco Air5s have over the Air5 is support for swipe gestures for volume control in addition to tapping on the bud. It’s a must for some users (including this editor).

Very light and compact case
The Enco Air5 are comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It starts with the design of the earphones: they’re open-ear (Oppo calls them semi-in-ear), meaning there are no silicone tips to dig into your ear canal.
On the other hand, the lack of cushions means that the Air5s don’t create a vacuum in your ear and have much weaker passive isolation than typical in-ear earbuds.
However, you do get active noise cancellation, although Oppo doesn’t claim decibel numbers. The ANC is nowhere near the level of the Air5. Like other open earphones we’ve tested, the noise cancellation only barely muffles your surroundings.
The sound quality seems to match that of the Air5: there’s plenty of volume and a very strong midrange with emphasis on the highs. Because of the less impressive passive isolation, you get less impressive bass, which wasn’t as impressive on the Air5 to begin with.
