vivo Singapore quietly revealed the global version of the Y78 – we say “global” because it differs quite a lot from the Y78 launched in China earlier this month. This one is bigger and with a different chipset, making it more similar to April’s Y78+, though not quite identical.

The global aliveY78 it features a large 6.78-inch display, a 120Hz AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution (20:9) and an under-display fingerprint reader. It’s a curved display, so the phone is relatively narrow for its size, measuring 164.3 x 74.8 x 7.9mm and weighing 177g.
It has an IP54 rated plastic body which means it will keep most of the dust out and can withstand splashes of water.

Hidden in one hole is a 16MP (f/2.45) camera, while the back has a single module of interest: a 64MP sensor combined with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization. Also on the back are a 2MP macro cam and a 2MP depth sensor. It is different from other Y78 phones, which have 8MP selfie cameras and 50MP rear cameras.

The Y78 is powered by the Snapdragon 695. It’s not the fastest chipset, but it enables 5G connectivity. vivo has paired that with 8GB of RAM (plus up to 8GB of virtual RAM more) and a generous 256GB of storage (there’s no expansion slot though). Note that the chipset limits video recording to 1080p @ 30fps, just like on the Y78+. Either way, the phone runs FuntouchOS 13/Android 13 out of the box.

The Y78 runs on a 5,000mAh battery with 44W fast charging, just like its namesakes. The phone comes with an 11V/4A charger and USB-C cable in the box, plus (at least in Singapore) a basic case and pre-applied screen protector.

The price of the vivo Y78 hasn’t been revealed yet, but the new phone is expected to hit store shelves soon. It comes in Dreamy Gold and Flare Black, both with a gradient effect.
