Tonight is the night, VR fans: WWDC 2023 is expected to bring Apple’s long-awaited AR/VR headset. Will it be the “next big thing” for Cupertino like the Apple Watch has been? Or will it be a unicorn seen only by a select few like the Mac Pro?

You may want to watch the live stream (embedded below) even if you’re not using AR or VR. Apple traditionally unveils the next major operating system releases for its various product branches: iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, tvOS 17 (and the new HomePod software), and macOS 14 are all waiting to be shown to the public and to the developers.

The star of the show (software-wise) will be xrOS, which will power Apple’s new headphones. The rumor doesn’t have much to say about other operating systems. We’ve heard a few things though – for example iOS 17 will supposedly have the ability to turn your phone into a smart home display, it should also bring an overhaul to Control Center and Dynamic Island (although details are scarce at the moment). ).

Perhaps iOS’s biggest change is related to EU regulations: Apple must open up its smartphones to sideloading apps and third-party app stores.

You should watch today’s event if you’re on the hunt for a new computer: Apple is rumored to launch a 15.5″ MacBook Air (with M2), perhaps a new Mac Studio will join it (no Mac Pro yet, though ).

The event starts at 17:00 UTC. We’ll have detailed coverage of all the major announcements as they happen.
