One of the coolest features of Windows 11 is the subsystem for Android that created it. This allows Windows 11 users to run Android apps natively or via X86 emulation depending on the machine hardware.

Windows subsystem for Android updated with advanced networking and usability improvements

Microsoft today released an update for all Windows Insider channels (US only) that improves the overall usability of the subsystem for Android and adds some new features for both developers and users.

We’ve made a huge change to networking! We are not introducing advanced networking, which allows apps to access local network devices for ARM computers, allowing apps to take advantage of this functionality. We have also enabled IPv6 and VPN connectivity, improving the subsystem’s networking capabilities.

More granular control of subsystem networking options is now offered in the Windows Subsystem app for Android Settings and will take into account advanced networking. Also, the subsystem and the Windows machine will now have the same IP address – both were previously assigned different addresses.

Other updates include updates to system kernels, improved apps and performance stability, as well as battery specific features within Android that help improve power consumption. There are a couple of noteworthy security features like Android apps marked safe can no longer be shielded and ADB debug popups will be directed to Windows for safety.
