introduction
What do the letters even mean? Does the “S” stand for speed? Also, if so, does that mean “T” stands for turbo? With the advent of electric cars, will that reference to “turbo” make sense to anyone in a decade or two? The Xiaomi 12T Pro does not answer any of these questions. But that’s okay, because it’s a phone, not a human being dabbling in some late-night pub philosophy.
However, it could still be confusing, because many people seem to think that the 12T Pro is the successor to the 12 Pro. The launch timeline is definitely in line with something like that, but that’s not true. The 12T Pro is, rather, a different take on the flagship smartphone, much closer to the ‘flagship killer’ concept, while the 12 Pro sans T is the all-out spec monster. At least outside of China, as the 12S Ultra also exists over there and takes the crown off the Pro. Are you still following any of this? Will Xiaomi ever clean up its denomination?

Again, unanswered questions. Don’t worry, though, because that’s not the subject of this review. In fact, it’s the other way around. We want to answer a few questions for you, but other requests. Things like: Is this a good phone to buy nowadays? How good is that? How does it go in everyday life, away from test labs and PR buzzwords? These are all things we strive to clear up for you, as the 12T Pro is one of Xiaomi’s two flagship devices to be launched internationally in 2022. And it’s the more recent of those two, AND it has some unique tricks up its sleeve.
So if you’re interested, or at least intrigued, join us on the next few pages as we explain what it was like to live with it for an extended period of time, during which we used it as our only smartphone. We have thus encountered both its positive and negative sides, and we can’t wait to share them all with you. Let’s start.
