There is so little difference between genders in Stardew Valley that it's not uncommon for players to discover to their surprise that they've been playing a different gender than what they thought all along. Players have found out they've accidentally misgendered themselves in Stardew Valley in situations like a male character they had been romancing admitting to never having felt feelings like this for a man before. This kind of misunderstanding is surface level, since players can still marry, have kids, and do anything else they want, regardless of their character's gender.

Players who want to change their gender for any reason, though, are in luck. It's possible to change your gender for 500 gold in Stardew Valley at The Shrine of Illusions, which is located in the basement of the Wizard's Tower. This ability was added in Update 1.5, which was released in 2020. However, to change genders in the game, you'll need to complete a few other steps, first.

Changing genders in Stardew Valley requires players to become friendly with the Wizard who lives in the tower in Cindersap Forest. In order to unlock the Wizard's Tower and allow visits to the friendly neighborhood wizard, M. Rasmodius, players can use one of two methods:

Read the golden scroll in the Crafts Room of the Community Center.
Purchase a JojaMart membership.
Either of these actions will prompt the Wizard's tower to open to players, with the Community Center route resulting in giving players the ability to read the language of the Junimos. Once the tower is unlocked, you can begin to visit the Wizard any day (except festival days) between 6 am and 11 pm.

The Wizard has some expensive tastes. To improve your relationship with him as fast as possible, his favorite gifts are Book of Mysteries, Purple Mushroom, Solar Essence, Super Cucumber, and Void Essence.

Once the Wizard's door is unlocked for players, it's possible to begin befriending him. Players who achieve a relationship star rating of at least four hearts will unlock the option to visit the Wizard's basement, where he keeps the magical Shrine of Illusions. Here, you can change your farmer's appearance, colors, and favorite thing. This is also where you can change your gender in Stardew Valley.

As the game only allows one active character, I simply used the default.
There is a way to manually edit it, however, if you understood the complexities of modding then you would be able to do it yourself.
