Name of the movie you are reviewing: A Fistful of Dollars
A Fistful of Dollars (Per un pugno di dollari in Italian) is a 1964 spaghetti western film by Sergio Leone and the first movie of the dollars trilogy. It follows the story of a stranger that wanders into the small town of San Miguel.
Review:
One of the first few spaghetti western movies ever release in the US. The story was considered to be a classic by fans of the genre and help create the new style of the western genre we now enjoy today. In my opinion, the movie is great and overall is one of the best movies I've ever watched especially if you know what it brought to modern cinema today. The main character of the movie is called the "Man With No Name" though in the movie he was called Joe on some occasions. For those of you who don't know the movie introduced and popularized a new type of protagonist, the "Antihero". During those times most protagonists in Western Movies in that era were shown to be heroic, good-natured, and good looking which was very unrealistic especially if you have an idea or at least knowledge of what life in the Wild West was. A Fistful of Dollars was a breath of fresh air compared to the other movies, as it represents what should the Wild West should look like and was the complete opposite of the other Western Genre movies of that time. I'm not saying that Clint Eastwood was ugly because he was not. Have you seen the guy at his young age? Moving on as I was saying during the period of the Wild West almost everywhere was not safe and every day was a fight for survival. So it makes sense that the protagonist who travels a lot should be dirty and tough-looking. Some of them can look handsome but that wouldn't matter since their pretty face can't save them from a bullet and they'll be covered in dirt most of the time. The action scenes also look realistic and it was achieved beautifully thanks to the expert camera angles in the movie. Speaking of expertise in camera angles the way the movie zooms in closely to the character's face helped make the scene intense which I think made the movie very enjoyable to watch.
Now let us move on to the negative bits. I think out of the three movies of the trilogy A Fistful of Dollars has the weakest story out of the three movies. Although this was one of the most iconic scenes of the movie I find that Joe killing four people just because they made fun of his mule was too much and unreasonable. The movie was also slow but that's what you can expect in western movies at that time.
Would you recommend this to other users? Personally yes. If you like cool broody characters with low morals then this movie is your cup of tea. And if they are not you should still watch the movie because it's a great movie and doesn't disappoint.
