Almost but not quite out of body experience you think you want

Imagine waking up to find yourself locked inside a room
that you've woken up to, probably a million times;
Everything is exactly where it should be --
even that disgusting pile of dirty clothes you like to pretend doesn't exist.
You look around, not being able to shake off that nagging feeling
that this room, this house, your body
feels like it belongs to someone else.

Imagine feeling uncomfortable in your own skin.
For some reason, today your body feels itchy
your soul wants to set it on fire
but your mind will not commit arson.
Your rib cage hugs you in an attempt to comfort
but it suffocates you instead.

Imagine feeling your consciousness float.
Your life is a movie; your eyes are the screens
you take a peek to see what's going on,
confident you will ace the commentary.
You think you know the actors well --
you can mock them and tell them what they're doing wrong.
As soon as the movie starts
you realize you're in the wrong theater.
These are not the actors you've watched your whole life.
These are not the lines you expected to hear.

Imagine feeling your brain eat itself.
You can hear your demons snarling
as they fight for the best bits,
the tasty ones you've been feeding with demon catnip.
Did you really think happiness can save you?
They will go for them first.

And suddenly the air sucks the life out of your soul
And suddenly you don't feel yourself.
Anymore.
