It's certainly an improvement.
I still don't understand the shadings, I guess I'll have to wait

You know..... Color once in areas with no shadows and color twice or thrice depending on the darkness of shadows in the shadowy area to get a darker shade (the case with blacks is different, the darkest shadow in black is drawn with black pen and the rest is done with dark shading pencils)

Yeah....I'll stick with not shading at all, failing too much already

The same happened to me previously, just try seperating the shadowed area from the lighted with a few pencil strokes as if you were drawing different parts
