Review:
Doomsday on demand is a wonderful gamebook (or choose your own adventure style game, if you'd prefer) with an excellent replayability factor. The characters are intriguing, with lifelike personalities, though the conversations don't sound very natural at times. I find the post-war apocalypse setting very imaginative, along with the story that accompanies it. Most of the endings are satisfying, except for one that seems rather sudden and hollow, which i don't want to spoil for future readers. Here's a couple of things i think could be improved upon in this game. One negative thing I'd change is the lack of interactions with whichever friend you don't pick as your best friend, as it doesn't make sense for the protagonist to just abandon their friend, especially in such a troubling time. Another thing i dislike is how it can feel railroading at times, with certain situations being inevitable no matter which options you choose. Back to the positives now! The capacity to be evil in this game is also satisfying, as a lot of games don't allow the protagonist to be truly horrible. Continuing on that theme, the betrayals that the protagonist can choose to make are truly heart-wrenching. All in all, it's an enjoyable playing experience.
