Phantasy Star is an RPG-style game released in 1987 for the Master System, followed by 3 sequels for Mega-Drive and remakes for Playstation 2.
Review:
The game uses the old style of RPG, each one has one attack at a time. At the time, although Sega did not have a large installed base of its 8-bit console (compared to the NES) and despite the high price of the cartridge, Phantasy Star was considered a bestseller by Sega. In Brazil, the game arrived in 1991, at the height of the Master System. The game was made in order to stand out from other RPGs, at the time they were predominantly medieval, usually set in castles and full of knights. the game's creator opted for a mix of medieval adventure and science fiction for the design of the scenarios and characters. This game also had a great highlight of its main character (Alis), games of this style before did not use a female protagonist.
Strengths: Graphics, with its animated battle scenes and showing enemies up close; Soundtrack, which is very interesting; History and its 3D effects in the mazes.
Weaknesses: Some monsters repeat themselves several times, reusing their sprites only with a different color.
History:
The game begins in a futuristic city located in a three-planet solar system called Algol, where Palma (the green planet, starting point of the game), Motavia (the yellow planet, with a desert climate and capital of the Algol Government) and Dezoris orbit. (the white planet, covered in ice and snow). Algol is ruled by King Lassic, who later becomes a cruel dictator after converting to a new religion. After a series of political changes, several rebellions arose. When Nero, the leader of a rebellion, is killed by a group of Lassic soldiers, his sister Alis vows revenge. As she travels and witnesses many victims of Lassic's oppression, Alis' goal becomes less about revenge and more about liberating the people of Algol. Later (during the game) Alis teams up with Myau, a talking cat; Odin, a member of Nero's Rebellion but turned to stone by Medusa, and the wizard Noah. Now your objective is to defeat Lassic.
Tips:
– To get more experience points, defeat the Fishman monsters (Found on the beaches of Palma).
– When any of the characters is defeated, the only way to resurrect them is in a church. Note: The money needed for this is equivalent to the character's Level.
– Try to talk to everyone in the cities, some give you important tips to find the next item you need.
– Be careful with the chests in the labyrinths, some of them are traps and inflict damage on you.
– In some labyrinths the floor is false in some parts, you fall to the lower floor.
