Name of the movie you are reviewing: promare (2019)
a film by studio trigger (kill la kill, darling in the franxxx, little witch academia) where a firestarter and a firefighter clash. will they be able to find common ground?
Review:
basic plot: 30 years ago, people who could summon strange brightly colors flames suddenly appeared. many of them could not control these flames, and this caused a global catastrophe known as the great world burn. the people who can summon the flames are known as "burnish" and are treated like second class citizens out of fear. there's a known terrorist cell known as mad burnish. they often set prominent buildings on fire in promepolis which results in burning rescue, the local firefighters, to be called. but things are not as straightforward as the initially seem.
the plot is political and deals with discrimination and locking up people deemed to be dangerous and even subhuman, police brutality, and has some science fiction tossed in that includes mechas and alternate universes.
lio fotia is the leader of mad burnish, and he is a sympathetic character who wants the best for himself and people like him (the burnish). galo thymos is one of the members of burning rescue, and had a near death experience as a child where he was rescued from the flames by kray foresight before he became the city's mayor. these are the main players in this story.
i won't add any spoilers, but things aren't ever as straightforward as they seem.
the animation is lovely, as to be expected from studio trigger. i liked the bright, popping fluorescent colors. i felt that the computer generated graphics blended in well with the traditional animation thanks to the way the linework was treated. the music was also top notch, but that's hiroyuki sawano for you (he also did the soundtracks to attack on titan). the songs with vocals are exceedingly catchy and i still have "superfly" stuck in my head three days later.
Would you recommend this to other users? yes, it's a lot of fun!
