Name of the movie you are reviewing: Shame (2011)
A sex addict's carefully cultivated private life falls apart after his sister arrives for an indefinite stay.
Review:
Cinematography: very fine. Uses complex cinematography and often continuous shots to give a certain rythm to the story. Beautiful and powerful shots.
Story: 8/10 Complex. Elements are described in a crude way. And even though the main story is about the sex issue of the main character, it focuses more on his feelings, suffering and inner battle, so we don't get a sexualized film. It's a good intense story, that caughts our attention and makes us feel the struggle and wrongness of the actions of the male and female characters.
Actors: 10/10 The movie requires great acting skills to properly show the intentions, addictions and traumas of both main characters and Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan manage to do this. Thanks to their amazing acting skills we can relate, understand and get more involved in its history.
Characters: 10/10 You always have the feeling that there is something completely wrong with both characters, even their relationship and the way they act toward each other feels wrong. And that feeling is what gets you through the movie. Both of them have traumas that affect their adult lifes, it is really interesting seeing how they deal with these traumas.
Visuals: 10/10 It's beautiful. It uses a monochromatic style, often using blue, green and white colors. The combination of these colors in relation to the music and the slow shots make this a pleasant and almost tranquil movie, even though what is happenning on the screen is the oposite of that. It uses red and yellow in harsh scenes. It's something truly beautiful and worth seeing.
Would you recommend this to other users? Yes, it's really original, harsh and complex. It's beautiful and gives you a great impact. If you like films that will cause an impact on you because of its crudeness, whatch this.
pd: it is interesting, but it may seem slow for some people, so be aware of that.
