Review:
The Irishman (2019)

This was directed by Martin Scorsese, and was based on a book by Charles Brandt.

The reviews are mixed and I totally understand.

Story:

So… huh.

First of all, this is probably already known, but this movie is so loooong. Three hours and thirty minutes. This was shorter than Gone with the Wind, but I don't know, it felt longer somehow.

What I liked about the film was that it took it's time. Of course they had to, it was a long film. The story is complete (haven't read the book, so point this out to me if I'm wrong lol) and satisfying. The end scenes were satisfying, and the character progression ( or the lack thereof)

Of course, this could have been shorter, but in the end, I don't know if it bothered me *too* much.

This film is the classic sort of story, but the execution was good. It wasn't the same full on action, it felt like a laid back mafia film (if that makes sense.)

I appreciated that the film felt real and grounded to reality.

I can't deny that the acting was good. It really added to the film. The acting was good - as much as you'd expect from professionals.

Visuals:

Again, first of all, the mood. The colors were sort of teal-ish, and I have no idea what to feel about it, but I'd like to think that it added some sort of a charm to the atmosphere.

It was gloomy, slow, and enjoyable.

Now the cinematography. It was good, the panning shots (?) and the sequences. Scorsese is known also for his cinematography, and it certainly did not disappoint in this aspect.

There were some visual effects which could have been done better, as it didn't felt natural, it was a bit shaky. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it was off. But I appreciated it, because there were some scenes that satisfied me. Like those taxi scenes.

Music:

Well, I actually liked the music. I think it blended well with the film. I think that's the only thing I am very sure that I liked. I liked it when they know when to use music, and when to avoid it so that was good.

So uh… It was okay. A bit long, but meh. I think 'meh' is the right word that I'm feeling. It was actually not a bad film, no, but it wasn't that super impressive masterpiece.

I know that some people would not agree, but this is just my honest opinion.

But at least I was hooked with the final scenes, I think those were one of my favorites in the film. I'm not going to spoil anything but that actually made me feel some a little bit emotions.

But of course some would be like, "That's it? Come on!" when the final shot turns black.

Is it a bad film?
No. It's actually not that bad. It had a certain charm to it.

I have come to sort of an appreciation to the movie. I liked that it wasn't all about the action, and we really get to know the characters. It was its own thing, and I appreciated that.
Would you recommend this to other users? Sure. If you're a fan of Scorsese, then you'd find it enjoyable.

This is actually about 3.5-4 but I compromised and gave it 3.

Rating(1-5): ⭐⭐⭐
