Name of the app you are reviewing: Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two
The sequel to the original Wayhaven book. Play as a detective investigating a mysterious carnival.
Review:
Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two is a mystery/romance choose your own adventure style gamebook. It is a sequel to the original Wayhaven Chronicles, but the player has various options for whether to import a character, choose key moments and recap events, or even play as a randomly generated character.
The plot is intriguing as a concept, but falls flat in its execution. A mysterious carnival has arrived in Wayhaven, and a strange disease suddenly sweeps through the town. Sounds good and fun to read, yet the plot doesn't peak and valley as a story should. Instead, it's stagnant and will leave you thinking "wait, that was it?"
The romance in the book is also very unsatisfactory. It's never anything of substance, just a constant tease. Like a middle school crush, basically. I've only romanced Ava, so the other romanceable characters might have more interesting interactions.
Which brings me to the characters themselves. Particularly how Mason seems to vanish from the narrative entirely, reappearing only in brief intervals. Seeing as he's part of the team, it's a bit disappointing that he rarely has any dialogue at all.
In conclusion, Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two is a disappointment, plain and simple. In my opinion, anyway.
