"You say that as if your stance matters," she says with an annoyed tone. "You act like you have some hold over me, and you do not. I am no human, If I was, I wouldn't have made this place the Sanctuary that I have. My name Casryth Ameryth Varcoe, and I am the wife of King Liam Varcoe. My family, my parents were deities in their own right, as am I. However, my title, and my background is of no importance.
My parents, long before meeting each other were both grounded here on earth, sent on their own missions to protect the humans and creatures alike. My father was a warrior for the king of his time. He had been captured by rival forces and was scheduled for execution by a group of rebels. They even put a special cuff on him that hindered his ability to use magic. My mother was a spy hired by their queen and king to rescue my father. They literally fought their way out of there. When the fighting was done, they went their separate ways and they never forgot about each other. My father even spent weeks looking for her, refusing to admit he may never see her again. Months later they were both invited to a masquerade held by the king and queen. They knew my parents secretly harbored feelings for each other and planned have them meet once again at the ball. When my mother entered the ballroom my father was instantly enamored by her, but before they could speak, the dancing began. He knew in his heart it was her and found her dancing with a 12 year old duke. He asked her to dance, and just as they began a few uninvited guests burst in and attempted to kill the queen, knowing she was pregnant with the first and only heir to the throne in their bloodline. If they failed to create a legitimate heir another royal family would take over. My parents took out the assassins together, battling in their fancy clothes, and had been inseparable since that day. They even raised us to be disciplined warriors and workers," she said with a happy yet pained smile. "
Through that happy accident they managed to find each other. That is how I came about. I was born into a supernaturally charged body that could either masquerade as a Human as I am now, or rest in my true form. All of my life I worked and built a living for myself, I protected the people around me and made a home for them in my old village. But then, our village was raided. I first met Liam that day as he had been riding by and overheard the commotion. Back then, he was merely a prince. He had the vision and the motivation to help protect his people and he couldn't resist the urge to assist us. In the heart of battle, he fought at my side as if he were another common man. When the battle was over and my villagers were safe we noticed that I had a wound at my side, and Liam dressed the wound. Then, he introduced himself as only a man, not a prince. He returned several times after that to visit, before finally revealing to me that he was a prince about to ascend the throne. But he told me before he did, he must marry, and he proposed," she explained with a chuckle. "Liam was no human on his own, either, but I had spent all of my life running from my title and wishing to live as a commoner with purpose. So initially I refused, I didn't feel I would make a good queen anyway. he returned several times after and managed to convince me to marry him. I'd loved him from the moment I meant him, but I hadn't thought I was worthy. Before long, we were married and we had a young child. She was very ill, but never let her illness keep her from experiencing life as a normal playful child. At times it seemed as if she lived a more lively life than those who'd actually had a full life to live," she laughs fondly.
"But one day her illness took her. We were devastated, but stayed as strong as possible for our people. Shortly after her untimely death, a few of her childhood friends were playing in the woods just outside of our old kingdom. A witch came and kidnapped the children from the forest. He and I both went to get them back, and our second in command betrayed us by conspiring with the witch. In the end, Liam traded himself for the children and he has since been trapped in a time loop forced to repeat the same moments over and over. Only his prison is the day our daughter was taken from us. We have tried to free him several times, but the spell is too powerful. Once, we managed to break the surface to communicate with him, but when we spoke to him he told us to stop trying. He wanted me to move on with my life because he made his sacrifice. He has resigned and accepted his fate, but that is something I simply cannot do. I have made the best of our situation and done what I can to create a safe haven for those who need it, but I refuse to stop attempting to hunt down the solution. The witch was killed before we could get any answers from her. However, we did discover that Liam can hear and see his surroundings here in this world just as the time loop ends and begins again. It's a terrible fate, but I am doing my best to free him without compromising my people," she explained sadly.
"But the curse was killing him, in order to save him and keep him alive, I cast a spell that took part of his curse into me, a form of blood magic. I carry some of his illness in me, and exchange have given him some of my life. It was all I could do. This land that the town is on was my family's old land. After the kingdom fell, I rebuilt a town here and brought my people here so that they could build new, strong, prosperous lives. I made this place a sanctuary with multiple protection spells placed over it. We have quickly become a thriving metropolis; we have homes and jobs for everyone. As I said, you are welcome to stay here, I am sure we can find a home for you." She wiped a sad tear from her eye as she continued to think about her little Elektra who'd now been gone for several years.
