LG’s mobile division may be dead, but it still has something zombie-like going on: it has promised to upgrade some of its latest devices to Android 12 this year, and it’s very slowly delivering on that promise. After the Velvet and the V60 ThinQ, today LG V50 ThinQ 5G started receiving the update to Android 12. This update was supposed to take place by the end of June, but apparently it has been slightly delayed.

Sure, Android 13 might be just around the corner at this point, but it’s still commendable to see a company that has abandoned mobile gaming not forget its customers from days gone by. The V50 ThinQ 5G was released in April 2019 and the update to Android 12 is currently available on Verizon models in the US. Presumably the other US variants of the phone are next in line to receive the goodies.

LG V50 ThinQ 5G is receiving the update to Android 12

The change log is very sparse, but you should expect to receive all the nice new features Google put in Android 12 last year, including microphone and camera privacy indicators, location sharing controls, and more. . However, don’t expect any UI changes – apparently integrating them would have been too much work, so the software will look like it did before the update.

Also, don’t expect any additional Android updates for the V50 ThinQ, this is the end of the line. And with the phone now over three years old, maybe it’s time to trade it in for something new?
