With its cheap offers, the lowest compared to the competition, Iliad has managed to win a rightful place in Italian mobile telephony, as well as in services that include the offer of internet from home. But why has Iliad recently created problems with the mobile network? What’s up?
Many continue to define it, perhaps not with all the necessary reasons, the fourth telephone operator in Italy. It will, no doubt, in order of time, but Iliad has amply demonstrated that, in such delicate times where the watchword is saving, the response of users with respect to a service of decidedly sufficient quality was certainly immediate.

Iliad’s entry into Italy has shaken the market so much because Iliad had such low prices that the other big three mobile operators all launched discount brands to remain as competitive as Iliad (such as TIM Italia’s Kena Mobile, Wind Tre’s Very Mobile & Vodafone Italia’s ho.Mobile).
While Iliad is still the smallest mobile operator in the country, it still has good coverage and speed. At least in cities, while many report lackluster service in the countryside.
With Iliad you can have a mobile operator today that provides you with download speeds of 1 Gbps. But if it covers only one road in all of Italy, it will ultimately be useless. So how is Iliad’s coverage? The worst in Italy. Opensignal experts said Iliad had the worst 4G/LTE coverage experience, with a score of 9.2 (on a 10-point scale), while its competitors TIM Italia, Vodafone Italia and Wind Tre were tied with a score of 9.8.
But we must not forget that Iliad is not even 5 years old. Its competitors have had much more time to build and strengthen their 4G/LTE networks. When looking at 5G NR, Iliad is the second worst, with 5G NR availability 2.7% of the time, ahead of TIM Italia (1.9%) but behind Vodafone Italia (8.1%) and Wind Three (22.9%). Iliad’s 5G NR coverage score is 0.9, ahead of TIM Italia (0.7) but behind Vodafone Italia (2.5) and Wind Tre (4.6).
Unlike many countries in Europe, especially the European Union, you need to visit an Iliad store to get your Iliad SIM card. This is due to SIM card registration laws in Italy: SIM card registration is mandatory.
Iliad: what to do if the mobile network goes haywire?
But let’s try to understand exactly how Iliad works in the moment the mobile phone service goes haywire or creates problems. And of course this is possible and can happen and how. In recent months, more than once, numerous users have reported the total default of the Iliad mobile network even for several hours. What to do if it happens to us too?
If your Iliad SIM is no longer able to communicate, make and receive calls or send messages, you need to switch to 3G network. The reasons why this change is necessary are linked, as we said before, to the constant expansion that the Iliad network has been undergoing in recent months.
So for switch to 3G connection you have to enter the settings of your Android smartphone, click, or as they say in the jargon, tap on “Connections” and then on “Mobile networks”. A new window will open from which you can select the “Network mode” item and a drop-down menu will appear with the various types of connection: 2G, 3G and 4G. Select 3G, restart your phone and the Iliad card will work again.
The fact remains that in the end these problems could also, as it were, be tolerated: with his staggering offer Iliad has really left its mark.
