What has been described as the largest video game fraud business in history has now been closed by Chinese authorities following a police raid.
A BBC report indicates that the cheating group, known as “Chicken Drumstick”, had earned an estimated turnover of over $ 76 million. The raid was part of a collaboration between the Chinese police and Tencent, a tech company that owns many Western video game developers and publishers such as Riot Games.
Police seized more than $ 46 million worth of assets during the raid, including a collection of expensive sports cars. According to reports, the cheating group’s headquarters were in Jiangsu Province, which is located near Shanghai.
The company was selling cheats worth over $ 10,000 every day, making hacks and exploits available for games based on services like Fortnite, Overwatch, and Call of Duty: Mobile for a monthly or daily fee. Police made 10 arrests and “destroyed” up to 17 tricks, although it is unclear how they were destroyed.
