Twitter’s rival app run by Instagram is coming to the app store soon. Threads will launch on July 6th and will be connected to Mark Zuckerberg’s photo platform. Meta also launched an app release countdown website.
A preview of the “text-based conversation” app claims that Threads will be a place where users can gather to discuss everything from trending topics right now to what’s trending tomorrow. Anything the community cares about can be followed right within the app.
Within Threads it is possible to create a loyal following, a sort of group with which to share ideas and passions. With this new application, Meta will join a growing group of platforms, including Bluesky, competing to replace Twitter since Musk took over late last year. Mastodon is also among the growing social networks.
Threads will work as a standalone application that is downloaded to your mobile phone. Once installed, it will automatically connect to the Instagram account you are logged in to. The app will then use the Instagram followers list to communicate. In practice, the list of followers will be composed of the Instagram one and the one that will be created in Threads.
Since Threads is connected to the camera of the mobile phone, it is possible to send videos and photos very quickly. You can also share stories and automatic messages with a few selected friends. Thread conversations are always saved in Instagram Direct. It is not necessary for all users to have Threads installed to communicate with each other.
The idea behind creating Threads was to offer users and their close friends a special private space where they can be in close contact all day long.
