OmniVision announced the OV50H sensor earlier this year, which is bigger than the OV50A from a couple of years earlier. And while there are plenty of phones with the OV50A, there aren’t any with the OV50H, not yet. Loser Digital chat station reports that the sensor will be present on iQOO 12 which will arrive later this year.
The OmniVision OV50H is a 1/1.28″ sensor with 1.2µm pixels (compared to 1/1.55″, 1.0µm for version A). This is the company’s first sensor with what it calls H/V QPD autofocus: unlike typical phase-detection AF systems, this one can detect changes in both horizontal and vertical directions (hence H/V). V). This is a competitor to Samsung’s Super QPD system.

Qualcomm is expected to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 towards the end of October, DCS extension claims that the iQOO 12 will be among the first to use the new flagship chip, alongside the vivo X100 series (and OnePlus 12 series, Realme GT5, Redmi K70, and so on).
Talking about the vivo X100 series, vivo is saying that it will use a custom Sony sensor: the Lytia LYT800 (53MP, 1/1.43”). DCS extension reports that some of the X100 models will use a Sony IMX900 series sensor.
Note that Sony appears to be in the midst of some renaming, the Lytia LYT800 appears to be identical to the ExmorT IMX888 (world’s first stacked CMOS sensor) used in the company’s Xperia 1V. Of course, vivo claims it has a custom version, so the two may not be quite identical.
Going back to the iQOO 12, it is expected to pair its new Snapdragon chip with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage in 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB configurations. We should also see a large, high refresh rate display and a battery with over 100 watts of charge.
Given the time frame of the 8 Gen 3 announcement, we expect to see the iQOO 12 (and others) unveiled before the end of this year.
