It’s been less than a week since the iPhone 17e was announced, but we’re already getting the first batch of rumors about its successor. The iPhone 19e, which is expected to launch in early 2028, is now rumored to bring a ProMotion display. This is a variable refresh rate panel in Apple parlance, which would be a game-changer for the budget “e” line, which has therefore been limited to 60Hz panels.

According to a new report from ZDNet KoreaApple is currently developing a new LTPO+ technology that uses oxide materials for both switching and driving transistors, leading to better power efficiency and faster response times.

The new display technology is expected to debut on the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series, as well as the next-generation iPhone Air and foldable iPhone. If successfully implemented on these high-end devices, regular LTPO panels will make it all the way to the iPhone 19e.

There’s quite a bit of uncertainty for now, so it’s not possible to confirm for sure that the 19e will be upgraded to an LTPO panel. We also have no details on what type of ProMotion display would be used on the 19e, as not all ProMotion displays are created equal. For example, the iPhone 13 Pro series panels offered a variation from 10 Hz to 120 Hz, while the iPhone 14 Pro generation dropped the value below 1 Hz.
