The novelty of extra users on Netflix has revolutionized screens on the platform. Now everything will be completely different for subscribers: this is how it changes.
The news regarding the new subscription plan to enjoy the shows on the streaming giant was introduced a few days ago in Italy. Extra users who are not part of the household will have to pay a surcharge because they are not included in the account holder’s rate.

After months in which there were rumors of the American streaming platform’s willingness to limit shares, it has become an official fact for a few days. With an explanatory email, Netflix notified all subscribers that content on the service will now be made available through the household. This means that all those who live in the same house and have access to the same Wi-Fi network can use the same account.
A decision that came to deal with the approximately one hundred million subscribers worldwide who share the price of the service with people outside the household, something that violates the terms of service. Exactly for this reason, Netflix translated extra users to be added in this way to the main account, paying an additional sum of money.
Extra Netflix users: how the new plan works
All those who want to continue sharing the account with other people must pay not only the subscription, but also a additional cost of 4.99 euros each. Simply put, all extra users have to pay the extra amount. The standard plan allows you to add just one, while the premium plan allows you to add up to two more users. But how will the platform change?
Every time the smart TV app launches, Netflix shows users two screens:
- In the Before it is explained that the platform is reserved only for the account holder and all those who live with it. It is also reminded that one can easily watch content on any device in any place.
- In the second, instead, confirmation is requested that the TV is located within the Netflix household. Furthermore, it is specified that the devices used must be those of the same household.
For the moment, however, it is not yet clear how Netflix identifies devices that do not connect to the Wi-Fi network but only to the telephone connection. What is certain is that the platform’s goal is to skim as much as possible the 100 million accounts that share passwords, which are certainly connected to televisions, cell phones, tablets and other devices connected to home Wi-Fi.
The Netflix’s new home subscription planmoreover, it could also lead to complications regarding the service. This is because an “external extra user” could easily confirm from his TV that he is part of the household, even if he is not. A problem that could certainly arise for profile holders who have shared their password.
