Then, there is the item collection aspect, which takes into account equipment improvement and purchase. During the hunts, there are parts of Behemoth’s body to be recovered for upgrades. There are special rocks and flowers to collect for skill-enhancing tonics and specialized grenades. And there are various Metal Cores to be earned that grant Cells (the equippable item in the game to activate special perks).

It is certainly satisfying to fight with various perks built up, a handful of Grenades that generate explosive flames or even just a Tonic that increases one’s defenses. That said, the lack of an easy way to see what commodities players have available is a nuisance.

Pay wall

Some people dispute the grind game’s embrace and blocking the coolest aesthetic rewards behind a pay wall. Specifically, the game’s Hunt Pass premium track, intended to reward certain achievements and progress in the game, costs 1,000 Platinum.

Constant repetition of the same few hunts to stock up on the necessary upgrade parts only serves to underscore how insignificant the world and its narrative concerns truly are. Little, other than the pursuit of more loot, acts as a player’s motivation.

In the meantime, having to weigh enjoying the game as a free experience versus paying for an addicting range of clothes dyes is anything but a fun time.

Performance Issues

But ease of access isn’t Dauntless’s biggest weakness. The biggest problem is the technical shortcomings of the game, especially when it comes to the framerate and the stability of the server.

Dauntless slows to a crawl at times when combat reaches a fever pitch, impeding the speed with which a player can dodge or strike at crucial moments. Even in less intense areas like Ramsgate, slowing has been a recurring problem. Additionally, the game crashed after a few hunts, although most of the sessions remained stable.
