Presentation

It would be unusual for any DLC to dramatically improve the presentation of the original game. But The Ancient Gods – Part One has the same detailed enemies and stunning environments. Of course, there is a good selection of new areas to explore. Thankfully, each of them has a distinctive look and feel and provides a very different background for the gameplay. This is arguably the best thing about the expansion’s graphics.
On the other hand, the DLC soundtrack looks less impressive. The music controversy in Doom Eternal meant that Mick Gordon was no longer involved. Without the composer that fans know, the new soundtrack has lost some of its quality. The music sounds a bit generic and doesn’t leave a lasting impression on you, unlike the main game.
Final verdict

The Ancient Gods – Part One is an old school type of DLC. It doesn’t try to do anything spectacular other than Doom Eternal, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. After all, the expansion can then focus on the strengths of the base game. This is exactly what it does and nails execution for the most part.
If you enjoyed the base game, then this DLC will provide more of the gameplay you love. The main attraction is simply the ability to move the action to some new environments. While the difficulty of the expansion may put off some, it also provides a greater challenge for experienced players.
