The power of PS4
Even for a 2016 game, Ratchet and Clank is an impressive indicator of what the PS4 is capable of. The visuals that players like are wonderful, but that’s not what impressed me. The amount of action that can happen on the screen at one time is the real advantage of the game. I don’t remember seeing the framerate decrease, even when hundreds of shards (the game’s currency) flew across the screen. Of course, this currency will typically be there whenever tons of explosions, bullets, and enemies are also visible.
The environments found within the game also benefit from this. There are several planets to explore which are impressive. Each planet has its own style and atmosphere, which makes it seem like you are bouncing through the galaxy at will.
Final verdict
Ratchet & Clank (2016) is a game that should please fans of the series. It will most likely inspire newcomers to get into these games as well. It works incredibly well and plays so smoothly that getting lost in the action is easy. The story inside tells a story that has been told many times before, but with the charm that only Ratchet & Clank can offer.
While some of that charm has been lost in this entry, the spirit of the dynamic duo is still alive and well on PS4. If anything, this game is just to make people more excited to see the iconic lombax and his metal friend appear on PS5.
