Apple’s big announcement day brought the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro notebooks in multiple configurations, all with the new M3 chips. The entry-level is now a 14” device with the vanilla M3 chip and without Touch Bar keyboard – it is the natural successor to the 13” M1 MacBook Pro but larger and more expensive.

The new chips represent the big improvement on the inside, while on the outside these laptops (M3 Pro and M3 Max options only) now have a Space Black option: darker, compared to Space Grey, but Apple said that the new color is less than a fingerprint magnet.

With a new chipset, these laptops will have different battery life. Apple said the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro silicon should last 22 hours on a single charge. The 14″ versions feature smaller cells, so this result would be lower, while the M3 Max variants will also provide shorter battery life due to the power-hungry GPU.

The more affordable 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 represents the biggest improvement over its predecessor. It gets rid of the thick bezels that were on the 13-inch MacBook and goes for a notch. It joins the family of larger laptops along with Liquid Retina XDR display and new AV1 decoding.

The entire new set of MacBook Pro devices is very similar to their M2 counterparts: three Thunderbolt 14 ports, an HDMI port, an SD card reader, and a MagSafe connector for charging. The screens are said to reach 600 nits of brightness, which is expected to be 20% higher than before.

The base 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 starts at $1,599 with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while the 1TB option would cost $200 more.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip starts at $1,999 with 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, but there’s also a more expensive option with 1TB and 96W USB-C power adapter: it costs $2,399. There’s another price increase: the M3 Max version, 36GB of RAM and 1TB of storage costs $3,199.

Apple’s largest option, the 16-inch MacBook Pro has a starting price of $2,499 for the M3 Pro, 18GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and 140W USB-C power adapter; the 36GB RAM version costs $2,899. There are also two options with the M3 Max: $3,499 for the 36GB variant and $3,999 for the more expensive one with 48GB of RAM.
