Apple found itself faced with yet another controversy with the launch of its iPhone 15 Pro series as numerous reports of the devices overheating forced Apple to address the issue with the iOS 17.0.3 update. Apple has officially acknowledged the overheating problem, but this situation may have pushed Apple to develop its own internal solution to prevent similar problems in the future.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has developed a proprietary “pad-like device” that can wirelessly update factory-sealed iPhones directly inside the store before they are sold to customers. According to the details, the machine will be able to turn on the iPhone wirelessly, update its software to the latest available iOS version, and then turn it off. Apple plans to roll out its new software update machines to stores later this year.
