Global supply constraints hit India in the first quarter of 2022, Canalys revealed in its latest report on the smartphone market.
Expectations were that the market would experience double-digit growth as the pandemic recovery continues, but supply chain problems have prevented companies like Xiaomi and vivo from securing enough components to produce their best-selling low-end models.

Xiaomi reported an annual decline for the second consecutive quarter, as did Samsung in second place, albeit to a much lesser extent. Conversely, Realme increased its shipments by 40% and ranked third.
According to Sanyam Chaurasia, analyst at Canalys, Realme and Itel managed to face the competition with a solid offer. Other manufacturers eventually started improving their numbers in March 2022 and are positive for the second quarter, expecting a strong quarter.

The biggest challenge for smartphone makers in India will be maintaining the accessibility of the devices. Gas prices and inflation are at an all-time high in the Asian country and suppliers hope to maintain profitability. According to Canalys, manufacturers will only be able to have a strong market share if they have a steady stream of low-to-mid-range devices for customers.
