According to a well-known whistleblower Digital chat station, three Chinese tech giants, namely Huawei, ZTE and BOE are collaborating to create the best foldable OLED screen with an under-display camera. The first phone to potentially benefit from cutting-edge display technology is Huawei’s future Mate X4 foldable smartphone.

Sure, the Mate X4 won’t be the first foldable smartphone with an under-screen selfie camera since Samsung’s Galaxy Fold4 debuted the aforementioned screen technology, but it was far from ideal. The selfie camera is well hidden, but it’s sorely lacking in the quality department. Well, Huawei, ZTE and BOE think they finally fixed it.
The new “Q8” OLED panel is said to finally solve the camera quality problems, especially thanks to ZTE’s industry experience and BOE’s tradition of display manufacturing. After all, ZTE’s Axon series pioneered under-display camera technology a few years ago and has made significant improvements over the past few generations. The new display is said to have a resolution of 2480 x 1116 px and use high-frequency PWM dimming at 1,440 Hz.
