With the launch of the Galaxy S26 series behind us, Samsung is turning its attention to the next generation of foldables. While those proceeds are being worked on, details about the two battery cells for the Galaxy Z Flip8 have emerged, and they bring bad news for anyone hoping for an upgrade.

The two cells, EB-BF776 and EB-BF777, have nominal capacities of 1,150 mAh and 3,024 mAh respectively. This amounts to 4,174 mAh. Last year’s Galaxy Z Flip7 had exactly the same rated capacity, although the breakdown was slightly different: 1,189 mAh and 2,985 mAh.

In any case, we expect that the Z Flip8 will be marketed with a battery with a typical capacity of 4,300 mAh, the same as its predecessor. Note that the difference must take into account the variability of production: nominal capacity is the absolute minimum, while typical capacity is what is expected on average.

Samsung is said to expect the Z Fold8 to outsell the Z Flip8, and that it will be the first time a Fold will be more popular than the Flip. The third foldable this year probably won’t be another Z Flip FE but a large Z Fold, so Samsung will turn to book-style foldables.

Anyway, back to the Galaxy Z Flip8 and the reasons why it might not sell so well: a) it won’t be getting a battery upgrade and b) it won’t be getting a camera upgrade either. According to the leaked specifications, it will have a 50+12MP dual camera on the outside and a 10MP selfie camera on the inside. In other words, the same camera setup as the Z Flip7 and Z Flip6. The Flips are getting the Galaxy S treatment, huh?
