MediaTek’s latest mid-range mobile chipset is here – well, today it’s official. It’s called the Dimensity 6100+ (if you’re big enough this will definitely give you AMD Athlon XP vibes) and it supports Sub-6 5G (no mmWave here).
Its CPU has two Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores. The chipset supports 10-bit 90Hz or 120Hz displays, “AI-powered cameras” (up to 108MP) with “2K” video capture at 30fps, and “UltraSave 3.0+ technology” offering 20% less power consumption 5G energy compared to “competitive solutions”, whatever they are.
“Stunning portraits and selfies” are enabled by “AI-bokeh,” and MediaTek is also working with Arcsoft to bring “AI-color” technology to mainstream devices “so users can showcase their creativity.” No, we don’t even know what all of this actually means.
But we’re bound to find out once the first devices powered by this chip hit the streets, and that should happen sometime during the third quarter of this year, so between now and the end of September.
