Nothing Chats' partner, Sunbird, is temporarily discontinuing its service

The Sunbird service offered Android users the ability to communicate via the iMessage protocol with Apple users. It did this by running an instance of an Apple account on a virtual machine running on a Mac on its servers, and the user had to sign in with their Apple ID from the Sunbird app to start sending messages.

Last week, Nothing teamed up with Sunbird to integrate its features into the Nothing Chats app, which essentially did the same thing. Later that week, a report was released Texts.com, which comprehensively showed how Sunbird was not living up to its promises of end-to-end encryption and not storing data in its database, and how this would allow a potential attacker to access the data of any of its users . This affected Sunbird and, by extension, Nothing Chats users.

Following this revelation, Nothing pulled the beta version of its Nothing Chats app from the Google Play Store citing “several bugs,” a choice of phrase that was roundly criticized for its inaccuracy and somewhat deceptive nature. Neither Nothing nor Sunbird have talked about it since then, that is, until today when Sunbird decided to suspend the service and withdraw its app from the Play Store.

Clearly, the company has a lot of work to do before it can deliver the promised user experience. As for Nothing, it is not yet clear what the future of its Chat app is and whether the company is interested in continuing on this path, especially in light of Apple’s announcement of RCS support for its Messages app which would largely cancel part of the need for such an app. Services.
