OnePlus has always had fun playing with textures for the backs of its phones, and it looks like the OnePlus 12 will arrive with a surprise up its sleeve. According to the prolific (and often right) Digital Chat Station, the next flagship smartphone will be available in a version that will have a wooden frame on the back.
Or maybe it’s a wooden frame case, the machine translation is ambiguous, and the image itself definitely doesn’t help clarify things. Also up for debate is whether it will be real wood, or just plastic or glass (or another material) made to mimic the texture of wood.

OnePlus has offered wood-textured cases for some of its devices in the past, and even wood-textured removable backs for its first-ever smartphone, the OnePlus One — we assume the move to wood with the OnePlus 12 is intended as a thanks to the company’s first model.
Since the image doesn’t help much to resolve the confusion, we assume that OnePlus is more likely to offer a case with a wood texture. It would be easier to pull off than applying a texture like that to the back of your phone, but crazier things have happened in the mobile world, so let’s wait and see what happens.
OnePlus 12 will be presented for the Chinese market on December 4th and for international markets in January.
