A couple of days ago, Nothing sub-brand CMF unveiled its first-ever smartphone, the CMF Phone 1, and this is Nothing’s cheapest phone yet. What it lacks in specs, it certainly makes up for in customization and design prowess.
Unlike every other mainstream device, you can swap out its back covers, with Nothing already offering a few options but also letting you 3D print one if you’re so inclined. You can also add accessories like a lanyard or card holder, and in theory the sky’s the limit.

It’s certainly an intriguing take on the basic smartphone, this one, with its unique design and customization no doubt trying to distract you from the specs, which aren’t bad, mind you, but the lack of NFC in 2024 is very hard to justify. That’s a $1-5 saving that we’re sure many people would have happily paid on top of the phone’s current price to be able to use mobile payments.

In any case, we’ve already taken a deep dive into the CMF Phone 1 in our written review, and now it’s time to condense all of our findings into a clear and concise video. That’s right, our video review is out now.
