Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ may be the new default flagship chipset in the Android world, but we also got a new mid-range option with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The new 4nm platform brings several firsts to the SD 7 series, including Qualcomm’s dedicated AI engine, image capture up to 200MP, and Android Ready SE for e-money solutions.

A cluster of Kryo CPUs clocked at up to 2.4 Ghz along with the Adreno 662 GPU sits in the center of the new SoC. Qualcomm says the new chip handles graphics 20% faster than the outgoing Snapdragon 778G, while AI assets are said to perform 30% better on the new platform.
Adreno Frame Motion Engine is said to double framerates in games while maintaining the same power consumption as the SD 778G. The new chip can handle up to 16GB of LP-DDR5 RAM.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Main Specifications
SD 7 Gen 1 also gets the Snapdragon X62 5G modem capable of 4.4Gbps download speeds with dual 5G standby connectivity in both (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes. WiFi 6E is also on board as is Bluetooth 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound and aptX support.
Qualcomm Spectra’s triple ISP offers support for photo capture up to 200MP and 4K HDR video recording. 10-bit HEIC photo capture and HEVC video recording are also possible here. Another first comes in Android SE and Trusted Management Engine which promises optimal security for digital keys and wallets.

The first batch of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phones is expected to arrive in a few weeks from a wide range of manufacturers. Oppo’s Reno8 Pro is expected to be the first phone on the market with the new chipset when it is announced on May 23rd.
