Xiaomi’s Redmi introduced the Redmi Pad in India last week with a base price of INR12,999 ($ 157 / € 163), and now the company has launched the Redmi Writing Pad in India, which is not a real Android tablet but an inexpensive slate that can be used by kids and adults for taking notes and scribbling.

The Redmi Writing Pad packs an 8.5 “LCD and Xiaomi claims that the screen does not emit light and mimics the look of ink on paper, preventing eye strain after prolonged use. Slate is made from material ABS and weighs 90g.

The Redmi Writing Pad comes bundled with a pressure-sensitive stylus, which allows you to switch between stroke sizes to create different shades. The stylus weighs 5g and features a slide and hold mechanism for easy access.

Once you’re done scribbling or taking notes, you can clear the screen with a tap on the orange button. There is also a one-touch lock on the side of the Redmi Writing Pad to prevent content from being deleted from the screen.

However, it appears that the Writing Pad does not allow you to sync content with your devices, which would have made it more useful.

Powering this whiteboard is a replaceable CR2016 button cell, advertised to allow you to write up to 20,000 pages.

The Redmi Writing Pad is available in black color and is already available for purchase in India for INR599 ($ 7 / € 7) via Xiaomi’s official Indian website.
