Samsung announced the One UI 5 Watch in early May, and then Google made the Wear OS 4 platform official about a week later. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic both launched last month with Wear OS 4 and One UI 5 Watch built-in, and in the meantime the Korean company has been preparing new software updates for its older wearables.
Today is the time for the 2021 Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic to get a personal impression of the new version. It has started rolling out already in the US, with the new build number R870XXU1HWH3 for Watch4 and R890XXU1HWH3 for Watch4 Classic. These include the July 2023 security patch level.

We will mention only a few important highlights, among which the main one is the ability to transfer the watch to a new phone without resetting – or with a reset and successful data recovery, the text is not clear, but in any case, it is very better situation than we had before.
Next, more call controls: you can adjust call volume, mute sound, and press buttons on the dialpad, all from the watch. Bixby can read your notifications aloud if you have headphones connected to the watch (but only if it’s set as the default voice assistant for the watch), there’s support for app folders, and you can control the wearable without touch it by assigning actions to gestures such as shaking your wrist, clenching your fist or pinching your fingers.
You can check the battery level of your watch, phone, and Galaxy Buds, and for the Buds you can turn the sound on and off in 360 degrees from the controller panel, and you can set an album or story as your watch face. The items will cycle through each time you turn on the watch screen.
Samsung Health improves sleep coaching, the ability to automatically record cycling workouts, the creation of personalized exercises, more accurate results for trail runs and can provide personalized heart rate zones while running.
As always, the update will most likely be released in stages, which means it may take a while for it to reach all devices out there.
