Samsung announced today that it will push an OTA update to all of its 5G smartphones in India by mid-November. Apple has also confirmed that a similar update is on the way and will arrive on iPhones in December.

The information comes after a meeting in India attended by government officials such as the Telecom secretary and the MeitY secretary. Smartphone makers have been asked to send updates, enabling 5G services on devices that can run on standalone (SA) 5G networks.

A spokesperson’s message said that Samsung has the largest portfolio of 5G devices in the Asian country and the company is working “closely with carrier partners” to enable Indian consumers to experience 5G without problems.

This will allow users of these phones to enjoy the next generation connectivity, currently provided by two major carriers: Airtel and Reliance Jio.
