It is the end of the road to Skype as it now marks the official retirement of the legendary communication platform. Existing Skype users can migrate on Microsoft Teams (free) with credentials, contacts and chronology of Skype chats that automatically move to the new platform. Skype users can export their data until January 2026, after which they are permanently eliminated.

Microsoft’s official reasoning for the closing of Skype is “simplifying our free consumers communication offers so that we can adapt to customers more easily”. Microsoft Teams (free) is provided with some downgrades compared to normal Skype. Group video calls are limited to 60 minutes and you cannot also use teams for pay-as-you-go and SMS calls as you could with the Skype credit.
