Xiaomi is expected to unveil the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in September, a year after their predecessors. According to a new rumor from a tipster on X, both upcoming devices will use the same 200MP periscope telephoto camera.

What’s interesting is that it will have a focal length of 85mm, which is much shorter than the 115mm focal length of the 50MP periscope telephoto lens of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Therefore, the output of the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will likely be marketed at 3x or 3.5x instead of 5x as in the current generation.

With the high-resolution sensor used, Xiaomi will also likely advertise “lossless” digital zoom of up to 6x, 7x or even more, and we’re sure the marketing will focus on this to appease people asking why there’s suddenly less optical zoom than last year.

The upcoming Xiaomi Pro phones are both expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro SoC. The 18 Pro will presumably have a 6.3-inch screen and a 7,000 mAh or larger battery, while the Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch display with narrower bezels than its predecessor.
