We know most people won’t care about this at all, but if you’re reading this article, you’re probably among the minority who might actually rejoice to learn that Samsung may be catching up to Google’s Pixel devices in this admittedly niche aspect.
Our colleagues at Android Authority had access to some leaked logs from the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. In them, they noted a mention of the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF), a key component for running a full Linux terminal that was absent on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The S26 Ultra is expected to debut with One UI 8.5, with leaked builds pointing towards the phone running the second quarterly version of Android 16 (QPR2) at launch. This is the same version that Google introduced the Linux Terminal feature, so all the prerequisites appear to be present.

What a Linux Terminal feature means in practice is access to a whole sea of Linux-based apps that normally require a computer to run. Both tinkerers and developers will enjoy expanded functionality.
And in case you were wondering what the next Galaxy S26 Ultra will be, we recently received a mega leak that you can check out.
