At the time of writing this article, only the Android to iPhone method is available on the WhatsApp support site and to do so you will need to use the Switch to iOS on Android tool. You will also need to be on the latest version of WhatsApp on both the sending and receiving devices. You also need to use the same phone number as your old phone or change it before the transfer. The receiving iPhone also needs to be reset to factory settings or new.
Based on the steps outlined in the instructions, WhatsApp has partnered with Apple to carry its Move to iOS app to successfully transfer WhatsApp data to a phone on iOS. As with the support page, you will be able to transfer account information, profile photo, individual and group chats, chat history, chat media, and WhatsApp settings. You will not be able to transfer WhatsApp call history or peer to peer payment messages.
Not being able to carry your WhatsApp conversations when switching from iOS to Android has long been a sore point for users switching between ecosystems. While many messaging apps simply allow you to access messages and chats from any device, WhatsApp can only be used with a single phone number and a single smartphone device. Only recently did WhatsApp allow connected devices to access, send and receive messages when the host device is offline.
