WhatsApp’s quest to add as many features as possible shows no signs of stopping. Case in point, a new one. Today, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the Meta-owned messaging service now supports screen sharing in video calls.
The feature is pretty self-explanatory. Using it, you can share documents, photos, or anything else that might be on your screen.

This has been in development for a few months now, having come out of beta testers in May. You can access it by tapping the Share icon. Then choose whether you want to share just a specific app or your entire screen, whatever happens. If this sounds familiar, it’s because the screen sharing features of Zoom and Google Meet work very similarly.
Is this WhatsApp’s way of trying to gain some commercial territory from those aforementioned competitors? It’s hard to say, but it can also work to help a relative with tech support, right? So it doesn’t have to be all about PowerPoint.

As usual, the new feature is rolling out gradually, so you might not see it right away. It will be available on Android, iOS and via the Windows desktop client for everyone in due course.
To complement screen sharing, WhatsApp now also allows video calls in landscape mode.
