Today, during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase, fans received confirmation that a Saints Row reboot will arrive next year. It will be released on February 25, 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC (likely as an Epic Games Store exclusive). The reveal follows Geoff Keighley’s mockery of a Saints Row reboot last week Twitter.

During the Gamescom event, we saw a CG trailer that serves as an introduction to the rebooted game’s gang. For better or for worse, the trailer points out that the Saints Row reboot will be a little more grounded than the original titles, which embraced nonsense.

What is the plot of the new Saints Row? It seems your gang (The Boss, Nina, Kevin and Eli) want to found their own criminal empire in the city of Santo Ileso. Game developer Volition promises that this will be the largest city the series has ever had, and that city is filled with colorful characters and rival gangs for players to face.

Longtime fans of the franchise are thrilled because there hasn’t been a game in the series since Saints Row 4 came out way back in 2013. It will be exciting to see what the developer can do on newer gaming hardware. However, some fans are concerned that a simpler Saints Row game won’t be much different than a Grand Theft Auto title.
